My Stopping Interval

Another part of Prophet T.B. Joshua’s biography, written by himself:

“In our spiritual walk with the Lord, we have good times and hard times. When the going is good, we say we are in good times. When the going is tough, we say we are experiencing hard times. Remember, life itself is a mission. While we are on the go, we need to stop between steps, to re-focus on the Word and the Will of God. While we are on the go, I mean, while we are on the mission, we need to sometimes stop at intervals to assess our progress and prepare ourselves for the challenges ahead. Certain challenges on our way usually make us stop awhile – I mean, for a moment. When you stop awhile, you are not down. What are these challenges? They could come in the form of sickness, failure, setback, imprisonment, poverty. For instance, if I receive a sack letter from my very lucrative job, there is a natural tendency for me to cry and lament, if I do not view the situation from the maturity that comes from faith. It takes faith to realise that the situation is a mere stopping interval – a short break between two events.

“I do not need to go very far to cite or give an example of what I am saying because my experience in life is enough to illustrate this philosophy or principle of life. As we said earlier, many things could cause one to stop between steps. I could still remember vividly when I sat for and passed the entrance examination into the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.

“I was invited for the interview and I had to board the train from Lagos to Kaduna. Behold, on our journey the train developed some serious faults that kept us in the bush in Jebba for six horrible days with little or no provision. Remember, I was going for an interview that was billed to hold the following day. I was on the railway line in Jebba while the interview was going on in Kaduna and there was nothing I could do to help the situation as I lacked the means to arrange for an alternative way of transporting myself to the venue of the interview, so I missed the whole thing.

“This was how the ambition to enlist into the military was aborted by what was obviously an act of fate. Who knows what would have happened if I had successfully attended that interview. I actually felt very bitter I had missed another chance of making it in life.

TB Joshua-2

“With a very heavy heart I went to the village to complain to my mother of how so many opportunities had slipped by. Little would I have reasoned that it was one of those stops between steps in my spiritual walk with God until my mother did her best to calm me down, saying: “My son, do not mind the seeming appearance of things as of today. If I am ever confident of any child, you are that child. Do not be afraid of what the future holds for you, because I know if anyone is destined to fail, you are not the one. So, be patient and you would see what God would do in your life. I am so sure of your future breakthrough, considering the strength of the predictions and prophecies about you even before you were born. I cannot forget so easily what I experienced when I was pregnant with you, and I know God cannot lie. My son, whatever you may be going through today, just take it as a temporary setback, meant to prepare you for the challenges ahead. Don’t forget your name is “Temitope” and, by the grace of God, the whole world shall have the cause to thank God for your sake.”

“After this encounter with my mother, I began to look at whatever came my way with a more mature mind whose focus was on God alone. I mean, the maturity that comes from faith in the finished works of our Lord Jesus Christ. My case was already settled in Heaven. Here I am today in your midst; I can boast of what God is doing for us. Hallelujah! You are all witnesses.

“In my spiritual walk with God I have experienced both good and hard times. Who knows what would have happened if those temporary stops did not come at intervals. Consider how my education suffered epileptic fits; today I am in school, the next day I am out. Remember, when God is executing His plan in our lives, He also designs and arranges events which continue to unfold until His purpose is revealed. The ups and downs in my education were part of the events that revealed the purpose of God in my life. Remember, the man who is poor is not the man that has no money, but one without a dream. They are suffering that have no dream. They are poor that have no dream.

“Before I knew it, I had gone around six different colleges in less than one year. I enrolled for the examinations of JAMB (Joint Admission and Matriculation Board) four times and on each occasion it was either I forgot my acknowledgement card and other necessary documents or there was an accident on the way to the exam venues. People who saw what was happening to me simply attributed my predicament to either sin or non-seriousness on my part. But those with the maturity that comes from faith, like my mother, saw it as mere stopping intervals or natural stops in my spiritual walk with God.

“In James 4:7, we are told to submit ourselves to God and resist the devil. If we examine carefully our attitudes toward certain situations, we would see how much we willingly submit ourselves to the devil each time we view things with the maturity that comes from the experience rather than of faith. The maturity that comes from experience is based on what is seen, what is heard and what circumstances look like. When your maturity is derived from circumstantial factors other than faith, your level of maturity would continue to fluctuate rather than being stable. This is why I am enabled to maintain a balance and stable approach to the challenges that come my way every day. I am not moved by what people say or do concerning my relationship with God. I submit myself to His direct will which is good and perfect with no evil in it. Sometimes, God uses foolish things to strengthen our desire for Him.

“In Luke 22:32, Jesus said to Peter, “I pray that your faith would not fail”. This means, all men make mistakes but people of God get back up. Certainly we would fall, but with Jesus supporting our position, we would soon get back up.”

  1. Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! eiih what a mighty God we serve and a merciful God we worship who is like unto Him among the god’s. Will we say Prophet T.B Joshua is not man but spirit this is the man who has touched us live with us smiled with us ate the same food many of us have been eating and yet we doubt his figure any way Abraham was right when he told the rich man when Lazarus was being taken to Heaven that that prophet’s are here on earth with us. meaning except we listen and believe what they say even when Jesus Christ should to talk again will still say crucify him, i know for sure we make a lot of noise of what we don’t understand and we refuse to observe too. Abraham said to the rich man let them listen to the servant of God(prophet).
O Lord help me not to lose focus and give me more of you in Jesus Christ name Amen.

  2. Thank You Lord Jesus for the life of Your humble servant Prophet TB Joshua.
Through his story I can see myself and prophecy to my future.
I have been in such situation to a point where I looked at myself maybe I was cursed.
In my academic life things had been difficulty. At primary- grade seven I wrote my examination to junior secondary- Grade eight under the ECZ- Examination Council Of Zambia and became first in my district. An acceptance letter from a good school came but finances was a challenged so was forced to remain at low standard school. While at that school the following year I wrote my jonior secodary examination to Senior secondary( grade 10-12) and became second in my district. Proceeding to senior secondary was a big challenge to the point where I stayed for a year without going to school due limited finances in my family. By the grace of God, well wishers who new my case went to register my name at the district for scholarship and I went to school. Again at the end of senior secodary we wrote our examination and I became one of the best five pupils. Gaining admission to high learning institution was another story.
Through all these I became so frustrated about life, depressed and bitter but the moment I met God through Prophet TB Joshua by watching Emmanuel Tv my thinking changed and became happy in my situation. I thank God for these life obstacles I am going through because now I know that they are just for while soon they will be over. I thought God hate me while in my situation then but now am happy because my case is redeemable through trusting Jesus Christ.
Man of God you are a blessing to me. Now I rejoice because my future is bright in the LORD. You have given me hope and I have come to know that whatever happen to me now does not matter but what God says.
Please pray for me that I should learn what I should while in my situation. And when am raised I should be able to remember where am coming from to raise others because my future is bright.

  3. A very good lesson in my life. Sometimes we aspire do the things that were not meant for us and I learnt that the setbacks we have in life is God’s purpose to prepare us for great things tomorrow. All glory to God

  11. Surely Our God is a sovereign God, Prov 16 v 1, ‘Many are the thoughts in a man’s heart, but in the end it is the will of The Lord which prevails. I am encouraged by this wonderful testimony to stand in faith on His promises and his word. He says his Word is yes and amen, he watches over it to fulfill it I have a reason more to believe and stand in total trust that he will fulfill his will and promises to me. Thank you Prophet for such a faith building testimony. Good Morning

  15. Goodmorning…
What a blessing and great gift The Lord God has given us in the life of Prophet Timatope B. Joshua!
May the name of our God be praised throughout the world.

Yes man of God I am not like others!

  16. I have carefully read the words of encouragement from the prophet and also read the testimony from Mercy Mokgatle and I find that there is two different things to consider. The stopping intervals are meant to strengthen our faith and allow the Spirit of God to asses us in and out in order to assure our progress in life in the direction that God has designed for us.And we do not need to be delivered for that and nobody can deliver us when the Spirit of God works in us.
Mercy Mokgatle experience is a kind of stopping interval too but it require deliverance from affliction of limitation.
My faith is lifted up by the fact that our sister stand on the promise of God and soon or later the Lord will see her through
We can not be delivered from stopping intervals that comes from God,but from that come from the devil.
Sister be blessed and we too pray for you that God of TBJoshua locate you as soon as possible.

  17. Infact after reading this; I am obliged to testify right away!
Prophet, this has opened my eyes to realize that my own stopping intervals are not a misfortune but an obvious great plan of God for my life (Jer:29:11).
I am a lady of 28years and have never had a stable career in my entire life. I have completed a Diploma in Media and Journalism here in SA but have always had menial jobs on contract and would always not get accepted for better offers or permanent positions. I am intelligent and work hard at each job that I get.

However, I have suffered great setback in this one area of my life. Each time I get a temporary job, when it ends, I go back and sit home, start from scratch applying for other jobs. At some point I would stay a full two years without anyone calling me to work. Inbetween those instances, my Faith would terribly yo-yo up and down. Today I would be fired up and believe that God would do it for me. Tomorrow I would be severely depressed and cry all day.

But in reading this passage about stopping intervals, God is telling me through this script that nothing that ever happens to me is a mistake, as I would have assumed. I have never stopped asking God to open the way for my career but at times I just completely stop praying about it as I would temporarily stop to think that God is not interested. However he knows my heart and I am HIS, even when I despair, HE knows HE will pick me up again.

I love Ecc 3:11-13 NLT [11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. 12 So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. 13 And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.] Amen. This passage keeps reminding me that no amount of worrying and self-effort will ever transform me if God is still working on my character and destiny. I have decided to leave everything in God’s hand as he knows me from while I was being knitted together in my Mother’s womb.

I can totally relate to this script especially where Prophet says, he used to think, perhaps he’s not meant to succeed or to be blessed. I honestly always do get such feelings BUT still, God would not have brought me to this World if HE had no idea how I would live and survive.

Despite everything, as my name goes; MERCY MOKGATLE; God in his Mercy and Grace continues to show me HIS Favor everyday of my Life and I thank HIM for that.
